New Column, ‘Related by Marriage’ Coming to Evening Bulletin’s Thursday Edition

The Evening Bulletin will feature a new humor column by Cynthia Nimerichter starting next week. ‘Related by Marriage‘ will explore the everyday happenings and the often small-but-significant things which occur in modern life. It revolves around a middle-aged, menopausal-crazed woman married to a sweet but somewhat befuddled geezer. (Any resemblance to real life….)

‘I am a baby boomer, and my generation is beginning to reach the milestones we never thought we would see–retirement, grandchildren, Social Security–but doing it in our own unique ways, as we have always done,’ said Nimerichter. ‘We are not sitting in rocking chairs but telecommuting, driving motorcycles, finishing triathalons, and jumping out of airplanes. We are surrounded by family but, again, in our modern way: ex-spouses, stepchildren, half siblings, and family members by choice, not blood. We baby boomers are not ending our days quietly. And we should do it with some chuckles.’

Nimerichter calls herself a ‘recovering lawyer.’ ‘I was a criminal prosecutor for most of my legal career, and I got satisfaction from putting bad guys in prison. However, it is not the most uplifting side of life. I find it more joyful to find humor in everyday life.’

She lives with Ted, her husband of 19 years. ‘Ted is not sure about having his name associated with this column, but he is being a good sport.’ Ted was born before America entered World War II and is not, for better or worse, a boomer. It really does make a difference in a person’s perspective, according to Nimerichter.

Colorado is now home for Nimerichter. She has warm memories of living in Center City Philadelphia in the 1990s.

Related by Marriage‘ will appear each Thursday in The Evening Bulletin.
